After 22 months of construction, the North gate of the Porsche development centre in Weissach (EZW) start of operations: Michael Steiner, Board member for research and development of Porsche AG, Stefan Althoff, Director of personnel procurement and development, and Carsten Schumacher, Chairman of the works Council Weissach, opened on Tuesday in the presence of local partners is symbolic of the barrier.

The North gate is now a Central point of contact for suppliers and visitors of the EZW. Previously, these were served separately in different buildings. So the access to the plant is facilitated: vehicles can now three tracks in and out. Large display boards on the lanes to guide the traffic.
Currently around 6,700 employees working on the Porsche site in Weissach in future vehicle projects. In order for the employees to have increased in the past 17 years, to 50 percent. So, the number of service providers and suppliers has increased significantly. “It has become increasingly harder to protect the development of the centre in a professional manner,” explains Andreas Haffner, Board member for personnel and social beings. “By consolidating the competencies in a building and at the gate to simplify, we adapt enterprise security to the increased demands.”
The Foyer of the new building offers sufficient space to the approximately 500 external service providers and suppliers in the EZW and go each day, to meet. Here requests are processed, badges issued, and access permissions controlled. The trails are short and indoor and outdoor wheelchair access. The heart of The Northern gate of the new station of the plant protection is an area of 35 square meters, and with the help of approximately 90 security cameras, and risk management systems, the professionals monitor the Porsche development centre – round-the-clock and 365 days in the year.
“With the Taycan, the first purely electrically-powered Porsche, so starts for us in Weissach, a new age,” explains Michael Steiner. “For this, we need to integrate, among other things, additional test benches and the necessary charging infrastructure to build on.” Thus, the traffic distributing under these conditions, better built Porsche in the southern part of the area until the end of 2020, the so-called Südanbindung with a second gate and a staff Parking garage, and other buildings for the development. The first milestone was reached with the completion of the Trassenbaus in April.
