12.6.2019 – Prime Minister, Stephan Weil, at the Volkswagen factory in Salzgitter

13.6.2019. Actually, with Prime Minister Stephan Weil, a “regular” visit to the Volkswagen components plant in Salzgitter is planned. On the change of the engine location from the structure of the battery cell expertise on the Transformation of the motor manufacturing and the new E-Motor components in the Rotor/Stator up to the planned pilot plant for battery recycling – informed Thomas Schmall, CEO of Volkswagen group component, plant Manager Andreas Salewsky, the salt gitteraner Chairman of the works Council Dirk wind müller and the head of the Center of Excellence battery cell Frank Blome the visit of the lower Saxony state Chancellery.

Then the group Board of management Dr. Stefan Sommer joined and informed about the latest development with relevance to Salzgitter Volkswagen AG is investing around EUR 900 million in a common Battery operations, with the North volt. A part of the sum is earmarked for a planned Joint Venture with the Swedish battery manufacturer, and another part goes directly to the North volt.

In return, Volkswagen gets about 20 percent of the shares in North volt. A 50/50 Joint Venture should also be in the course of the year, founded, with the goal of building a 16 gigawatt-hours of battery cell production in Europe.

It is planned that the work at the earliest in 2020 in lower Saxony, Salzgitter build, if the necessary conditions are fulfilled. The year-2023/2024 the Start of battery cell production for Volkswagen, then, is provided
