8.5.2019 Munich. On 15./16. June is the 24-hour race of Le Mans (FRA) the completion of the “Super Season” will be 2018/19 in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). BMW M Motorsport has now named the six riders who will compete in the two BMW M8 GTE from BMW Team MTEK in the Sarthe. In addition to the regular drivers of the team, Martin Tomczyk (GER), Nick Catsburg (NED), António Félix da Costa (POR) and Augusto Farfus (BRA), will be the two BMW works driver Philipp Eng (AUT) and Jesse Krohn (FIN) in Le Mans.
“The 24 hours of Le Mans is the biggest endurance race in the world, and an absolute Highlight in our calendar,” says BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “That’s true for this year maybe a little more than you already have. Finally, we celebrate some special anniversaries. 20 years ago, we have celebrated with the BMW V12 LMR and the overall victory. And 80 years ago we were with the BMW 328 at the Start. We want to offer the Fans something really Special, and bring the two historic vehicles to Le Mans. From a sporting point of view, we are well positioned with our pilots in the Cockpits of the two BMW M8 GTE. The four regular drivers – Martin, Nick, Antonio, and Augusto – have run in the WEC already places on the podium. In addition, two other drivers, the M8 GTE so have a lot of experience in the BMW, and know how it is in GT racing successfully in Philip and Jesse. We are looking forward to Le Mans and start now in the final Phase of preparation.“
Closely want to compete as in the case of the 24 hours of Le Mans in 2018, together with Tomczyk and Catsburg in the #81 BMW M8 GTE. The Austrian belongs to the BMW DTM Driver line-up, and contests GT so regularly inserts for BMW Motorsport. In January, he won the 24 hours of Daytona (USA), in which he drove, among other things, together with Farfus, the victory in the racing class.
Krohn this year to experience his Le Mans debut. The Finn, “BMW Motorsport Junior of the Year” 2014, is a regular driver of the BMW Team RLL in the American IMSA series and is also a designated GT-expert. He wants to share in Le Mans the Cockpit of the #82 BMW M8 GTE with Félix da Costa and Farfus.
On Sunday, the 2. June, completed the BMW Team MTEK in the Le Mans official test day. The race starts on Sunday, 9. June with the Technical inspection of vehicles in the city centre. The 24-hour race starts on Saturday, 15. June, at 15:00.
