14.5.2019 Stuttgart. Daimler AG is pushing ahead with the Transformation to emissions-free mobility with emphasis. Sustainability is an essential Element of the corporate strategy of Daimler, and at the same time scale for entrepreneurial success. The future management Board Chairman of Daimler AG’s Ola Källenius, currently as a Board member responsible for group research and Mercedes-Benz Cars development, under the Heading “Ambition 2039” at a press event the targets for the passenger Cars. The Following is the Statement by Ola Källenius in the wording:
“First Move the World” – this is our Purpose at Mercedes-Benz Cars. This is the deeper meaning of our work, our drive, our “why”. “First Move the World” means to keep track of more than the Immediate. This pioneering spirit is part of our DNA. Therefore, it is also one of the cornerstones of the new sustainable business strategy, we are currently working on. This strategy has several dimensions, but one of the key issues is our CO2-footprint. At Mercedes-Benz we are striving for the Best; our customers expect us to provide sustainable and fascinating products. One of the key questions is therefore: What we do, so that our customers may require in the future to climate-neutral mobility? The answer is our “Ambition2039”:
Content
- We aim to achieve a CO2-neutral new-vehicle fleet in 20 years.
- We want to offer our customers a CO2-neutral driving experience.
- We aim for CO2-neutral production.
- We also want our suppliers to follow this claim.
- We inspire our customers for climate-neutral mobility and enable emission-free Driving.
- We are determined to do.
We aim to achieve a CO2-neutral new-vehicle fleet in 20 years.
What does this mean for us? A fundamental change of our company in less than three product cycles. This is not a long period of time, if you consider that fossil fuels have dominated our industry, and since Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler invented more than 130 years ago, the car. But as a company that was founded by engineers, we believe: technology can help shape a better future. Our road to sustainable mobility-Innovation in a holistic approach along the entire value-added chain.
We want to offer our customers a CO2-neutral driving experience.
In Oslo, the press presentation will be held today at our Mercedes-Benz EQC (power consumption, combined: 20.8 to 19.7 per kWh/100 km; CO2 emission, combined: 0 g/km*), the First-of-a-whole-Generation-of-electric Mercedes models. By 2030, we want to sell more than half of our cars with electric drive – electric vehicles and Plug-in Hybrid. We will continue to offer our customers the performance and luxury of a Mercedes. At the same time, we want to reduce the CO2-emissions per vehicle significantly. Our RD Team is working together with established partners and Start-ups, in order to increase the electrical Performance and to further reduce the cost. In the sense of a holistic approach, we are also expanding our mobility services continuously, in order to spread the use of E-mobility. In addition to the Cars ECM and we resumed our vans, Trucks and buses. A faster technology transfer between the divisions is thanks to our modular development approach. Currently, our focus is on battery-electric mobility. At the same time, it remains important to work on further solutions, such as the fuel cell or E-Fuels. Evidence of our GLC F-CELL (hydrogen combined fuel consumption: 0.34 kg/100 km, CO2-emissions combined: 0 g/km; power consumption combined: 13,7 kWh/100 km**). This technology will also come in our city buses. Today, no one can say with certainty, which is the mix of drive systems wants to meet in 20 years, the needs of our customers at the best. Therefore, we want to encourage the policy is to prepare the technology neutrality of the way: Let us set our goal set, but not the means to achieve it.
We aim for CO2-neutral production.
Our Factory 56, the direction of This new factory in the Sindelfingen plant uses renewable energy and has been planned from the beginning of CO2-neutral. In the next step, all of our European works will follow until 2022. How well sustainability and cost-efficiency in line, shows an example of our new plant in the Polish Jawor. With wind power, we are not finished there, only green, but also economic, as it would be at this site with conventional electricity. Our EQC in Bremen and our batteries in Kamenz in Saxony, we produce electricity from renewable sources. A holistic approach to the CO2-savings also includes the Recycling of raw materials. Mercedes vehicles have a potential recycling rate of 85 percent. We move from a value chain to a value-added circuit.
We also want our suppliers to follow this claim.
It is important to us that our goal of climate neutrality is to promote among our suppliers and partners. The starting point is the creation of transparency. To this end, we work with organisations such as CDP, to assess the environmental impact of our supply chain. In a further step, we are conducting Workshops with suppliers to identify effective CO2 reduction measures. We set out to do, to make CO2 targets is an important criterion for vendor decisions and contracts.
We inspire our customers for climate-neutral mobility and enable emission-free Driving.
Electricity is in the life cycle of electric cars in some regions a very significant source of CO2 depending on how it is generated. We want to inspire our customers to charge their green vehicles with green electricity. With Mercedes Me Batch, for example, we enable car drivers to charge their vehicles easily in many different public stations in Europe, where possible, with energy from renewable sources. But the transition to a sustainable mobility of the future will succeed only if the car industry, energy providers and policy work Hand-in-Hand. It also needs massive investment and concrete measures on the automotive industry. Climate-neutral energy, and a comprehensive infrastructure for this system change is essential. And we are open for a discussion on the effective pricing of CO2 and incentives for low-carbon-free technologies – on a global level.
We are determined to do.
For us, the Paris climate agreement is more than an obligation – it is a Conviction. And we have set a clear course, in order to make our contribution to climate protection. However, this Transformation is a huge challenge technologically as well as financially. Finally, we want to make sustainable mobility even more exciting, not more expensive. And of course, it’s also about sustainable economic success. So how do we deal with that? One possibility would be to look wegzuducken and to try to maintain the Status quo. But that would not be our Purpose – and certainly not our future. We prefer to do, what did our founders: they were architects of a new mobility without the horses. Our mission today is the individual mobility without emissions.
Again, it takes technology and determination. In order to underline that we are serious, we link objectives components of Executive Board remuneration to the achievement of our sustainability, including our CO2 footprint. We all need to leave our comfort zones, to new Ways to move forward. We aspire, of course, a tight shoulder-to-shoulder with our employees and their representation. This Transformation is the task of our Generation. And I am absolutely confident We have the right Team, to master them successfully. This strategy will help to maintain our top position in the auto industry.
