28.5.2019 Mladá Boleslav. The stage for the ŠKODA MOUNTIAQ: The sixth ŠKODA Apprentice Car is a spectacular two-door Pickup concept based on the ŠKODA KODIAQ. The design and construction of 35 talented ŠKODA’s apprentices have it as part of their training. The Orange Sunset painted a single piece impresses with its powerful visual presence with a powerful winch, 17-inch Rockstar wheels with special off-road profiles, illuminated load area and a revamped sound system. Since 2014, the project shows every year, once again the high standard of training of the prestigious ŠKODA vocational school in Mladá Boleslav.
The sixth ŠKODA Apprentice Concept Car bears the name of MOUNTIAQ – this is the model name highlights the perfect combination of modern Lifestyle and the high utility value of a Pickup truck. As the base of your Apprentice Concept Cars, the Project participants have chosen the SUV, the ŠKODA KODIAQ. Eight months were 35 apprentices from the ŠKODA vocational school in Mladá Boleslav, including six women, all of their strength and creativity in the tradition-rich project – together they invested more than 2,000 hours of work. The dedicated young professionals were supported so this year, actively ŠKODA experts from the fields of technology, production and Design.
“The Name MOUNTIAQ brings a lust for adventure and the unique off-road features of the powerful Pickups are the perfect expression of. I’m incredibly proud that I got to participate in this unique project,“ says Petr Zemanec, one of the trainees.
The 17 to 20-year-old apprentices started in September 2018 under the guidance of their instructors, to work on the MOUNTIAQ, in January, the practical implementation started. In a first step, the body shell has been reinforced. Then the roof of the ŠKODA KODIAQ were removed, as well as a rear wall, and side window for the driver’s cab is manufactured. The driver and the front passenger door has been cut and widened. For the winch on the Front of the ŠKODA MOUNTIAQ, the trainees developed a special holder, the enormous loads during off-road use can withstand. The Integration of a fully functional tailgate at the end of the loading area was one of the biggest challenges of the project. The ŠKODA lettering in individual letters on the rear of the MOUNTIAQ assumes, among other things, from the ŠKODA SCALA and the ŠKODA KAMIQ equipped as the first production models in Europe with this new Feature.
For a perfect use on and off-road, the students have increased the ground clearance of the almost five-Meter long Pickups compared to the KODIAQ SCOUT around ten centimeters. Since 2014, the 90-year-old ŠKODA vocational school makes it possible for particularly talented apprentices to design their own vehicle and to the wheels.
