21.5.2019. Toto Wolff, team principal of Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport paid tribute today to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the team, Niki Lauda, who died on Monday evening.
“In the name of the team and of all the Mercedes I would like to congratulate Birgit, Niki’s children, his family and friends our deepest condolences.
Niki will always remain one of the greatest legends of our sport. He embodied heroism, humanity and sincerity on and off the track.
He leaves a deep gap in the formula 1. We have lost not only a hero who has given probably the most impressive Comeback of all time, but also someone who is valuable clarity and openness in the modern formula 1 has brought. We will miss him as a voice of reason very.
Our Mercedes Team has lost in him, his guiding star. As our team-mate Niki what in the past six and a half years, always brutally honest and so loyal. It was a privilege to welcome him to our Team, and it was moving to see how much it meant to him to be part of the success of this team. Always, when he went through the works in Brackley or Brixworth or one of his famous motivation speeches, sprayed it with a energy like no one else.
