13.6.2019. The Volkswagen ID.R is ready for the title defense at the “Goodwood Festival of Speed” (4. to 7. July).
In the past year, Romain Dumas, had placed the control of the purely electrically powered racing car in 43,86 seconds a new electric record at the prestigious race in the South of England. At the Goodwood Hillclimb, the Frenchman drove to the only 1,86 kilometers long course, the fastest time for 15 years. ID.R, the sporty spearhead of the electrically-powered series production vehicles of the ID. Volkswagen Motorsport Director Sven Smeets added: “last year we were only three weeks after the record-breaking run at Pikes Peak at Goodwood at the Start and have used the technical configuration of the mountain race. In this year, we will for the first time with a specially for the Goodwood prepared ID.R.“ The main focus of The engineers is a specially designed for short distance drive configuration. “We have a further step in the evolution of the ID.R developed, a sprint version with a smaller battery, to reduce the weight further,“ says François-Xavier Demaison, Technical Director of Volkswagen Motorsport. “In addition, we have selected for the very short distance a much more aggressive energy management strategy. For the Sprint at Goodwood a very high level of performance over a very short period of time is required.“
