17.5.2019. The Volkswagen group delivered in April, worldwide 866.400 vehicles, representing a decrease of 6.6 percent compared to the same month last year. All of the core regions recorded in the reporting month decline in the overall markets.
This was due in some markets on a deterioration in economic activity and in others, the tense geopolitical situation. Dr. Christian Dahlheim, head of Volkswagen group sales: “In many important countries, the total markets in April have inserted the reverse gear. In our largest individual market, China, the customers of many brands practiced, in spite of the reduction of the VAT more in reluctance to purchase. This Trend is what is so affected by the Volkswagen group. We will introduce in the coming months, important new models, and look more somewhat more optimistic in the second half of the year.“
The delivery of results to the regions in April in detail:
In the Europe Region, the Volkswagen group brands delivered a total of 394.800 vehicles, a decrease of 2.0 percent compared to the same month last year. In Central and Eastern Europe 69.700 vehicles were handed over to customers, representing an increase of 1.5 percent compared to the previous year. Positive impetus came in particular from Russia, where 20.200 customers took their new vehicles, a group brand in channels (+7.0 percent). In Western Europe, deliveries decreased by 2.7 per cent on 325.100 vehicles. The home market of Germany recorded a Minus of 6.3% on 118.200 vehicles. The year-on-year month here what is failed due to the environmental incentive is particularly strong.
In the North America Region, deliveries declined by 4.1 per cent to 76,600 for vehicles. In the United States 51.700 customers accepted their new group vehicles, a decline of 3.7 percent compared to the same month last year. In Canada, the deliveries were with sales of 10,700 vehicles on the previous year’s level (-0.3 percent). In Mexico, the overall economic environment remained difficult. There 14.200 vehicles were delivered (-8.0 percent).
In the South America Region, the markets developed differently. Overall, there is 48600 vehicles were handed over to customers, a decrease of 6.4 percent compared to the same month last year. Brazil, the largest market in the Region, with 8.3%, once again clearly in the Plus. There 36.800 vehicles were delivered. In Argentina, the environment of 6,700 customers in a persistently difficult overall economic market of their vehicles, a significant decrease of 46.2 percent.
In the Asia-Pacific Region, group brands delivered approximately 322,000 vehicles. These are 10,5 percent less than in April 2018. The most important single market China, the purchase of continued reluctance on the part of customers, in spite of the month and the beginning of the current VAT reduction, which led again to a significant decline in the overall market. This Trend did not escape the group’s brands completely, however, decreased deliveries by 9.6 per cent, again less than the overall market. With the Delivery of 302.600 vehicles to customers, the group has expanded its market share.
